Table 4 NET acetate [Aygestin] Facts

From: The Progestin Revolution: progestins are arising as the dominant players in the tight interlink between contraceptives and bleeding control

NET acetate is supplied in 2.5 and 5 mg. NET acetate produces secretory changes in an estrogen-primed endometrium. It is twice as potent as norethindrone on a weight basis. It is used for the treatment of secondary amenorrhea, endometriosis, and abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance in the absence of organic pathology.

NET acetate may be given daily for 5 to 10 days to produce secretory transformation of an endometrium. Withdrawal bleeding usually occurs within three to seven days after discontinuing.

Patients with chronic abnormal uterine bleeding can be treated with a daily dose of 2.5 to 15 mg/day of NET acetate can be continued for 6 to 9 months. Some breakthrough bleeding generally occurs.
